"...my passion to create something wonderfully specific and unapologetically empowering for breastfeeding mums"
My Breastfeeding Story
Most new mums develop anxiety about some aspect of motherhood, and I was no different. I was anxious about breastfeeding in public.
I feared exposing my body, receiving negative comments/looks or being asked by someone to leave or cover up. I was also nervous about wearing something fashionable but dysfunctional or on the opposite end, functional but unfashionable. There was frankly a lot to process and I struggled to find a balance. Naturally, this took a toll on my confidence and resulted in me choosing to socialise less and less outside of my home.
A combination of reading about difficulties other mothers had faced with breastfeeding in public and my natural inclination towards wanting to help people, ignited my passion to create something wonderfully specific and unapologetically empowering for breastfeeding mums.
Kara Bloom is so named because ‘Kara' combines Kandi & Amara (the name of my first daughter and I) and ‘Bloom’ appropriately describes a mother's journey. I spent two years developing my labour of love; the Magnolia dress which is fashionable, functional and flattering. Ultimately, it meets my goal; to give breastfeeding mothers one less thing to worry about and one more thing to feel good about.

The Founder
I am a mother to two beautiful children, a qualified doctor and a creative enthusiast.
In May 2017, I became a mum for the first time- and unexpectedly developed anxiety about breastfeeding in public. With my background in Medicine, I knew that the benefits of breastfeeding were endless but I experienced a lack of support from the wider community to uplift and empower breastfeeding mums.
Armed with that insight, I became determined to bridge the gap and find a way to celebrate these powerful mothers on their journey.
